AW Hainsworth acquires Atkinson Dyeing

Atkinson Dyeing has been acquired by Pudsey-based textile company AW Hainsworth, in a strategic move that will strengthen the capabilities and resources of both companies.

Atkinson Dyeing was founded in Keighley in 1978 by the Wolstenholme family. The company is a commission-based dyehouse, specialising in package dyeing for a wide range of different fibres.

AW Hainsworth was established in 1783 and manufactures fine woollen fabrics for markets as varied as fashion, interiors, military, leisure, transport and the emergency services. The company famously supplies the scarlet tunic cloth worn by the guards at Buckingham Palace.

Commercial Director Diane Simpson said, “As manufacturers we have had issues in the past with other dyehouses missing deadlines by weeks and delivering poor quality products. By purchasing Atkinson Dyeing we can contribute resources and capital into further developing the company and ensuring it delivers a high quality of product and continues to build on its strong relationships with its customers.

“This acquisition will also help streamline the manufacturing process and make it more streamlined, as we won’t have to transport our spun yarns very far to be dyed. This will save on fuel and reduce the overall carbon footprint of our textiles.”
